… as if all of that isn’t enough on its own, soy's greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. Soybeans are readily available and easy to cultivate; the only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow. On the other hand, paraffin wax for example, is derived from non-renewable petroleum so while the global reserves of oil shrink, the price of paraffin increases.
When you compare the same size soy wax candles and paraffin candles you will notice the soy tends to burn slower and last longer. That's a win-win in my book!
For those that aren’t familiar with pure soy candles, I will say that they have a different texture and appearance than paraffin candles once they have been burned/melted and re-hardened. Some might call it ‘rustic’, ‘natural’, or just plain ‘ugly’, with all of its bumps and lumps, but it's normal and doesn’t hinder or affect the performance in any way. All of my candle vessels have lids so just slap it on after you’ve burned your candle and you won’t notice its ‘homely’ appearance! :)
To prevent fire and serious injury always trim wick to 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) before lighting and keep debris out of wax pool. Never burn longer than 4-hour intervals. Set candle on heat-resistant surface and avoid drafts. Always burn within sight and extinguish before leaving room. Don't burn near things that catch fire. Keep away from children and pets. Don't extinguish with water. Always let wax harden before relighting, touching or moving.
